This talk will discuss queerness in the contemporary performance arts, going beyond the traditional reading of queer through the sole prism of gender / sexuality. The position of Queer as being outside the norm depends on geography and context as much as on intention, and different topographies of what is artistically interesting and relevant require differing approaches to curating queer performances – something to be undertaken, always, with an open mind.
Zvonimir Dobrović (HR) is the founder and Artistic Director of Domino, one of the major independent art NGOs in Croatia. In that capacity he is responsible for curating several festivals in Croatia and internationally – most notably Perforations, a week-long programme of live art, and Queer Zagreb. Through different platforms he curates over 100 performances annually, staged all over the world, many of them commissions that are produced specifically for festivals and other events. He has served on numerous panels and boards, juries and committees in the field of performing arts and film. Zvonimir has also edited dozens of articles, magazines and books on performance. He regularly holds lectures and workshops on curating and arts management.
